It's a very tough question to answer. The best advice one can give is collect for the joy of collecting. The rare coin market is like a roller coaster nothing is a sure thing.Collect what you can afford and enjoy...Hope this helps.

Go for something rare and Silver.
And if you have to compromise on one thing make it condition.
Well that is what I would do anyway!

I would not consider coins a serious investment, but they can be an investment, You may need to keep them a long time to get your money back. I have recently looked at a lot of my coins bought from coin dealers in the last 30 years, as I keep my invoices. I have not checked them with a coin book value, but with dealers lists based on same grades as those I purchased. Whilst most of the higher value coins have increased, some fourfold, most of the lower grades have not increased significantly. If you do sell, you need to remember that dealers are in it to make a living so will not pay you the full value of coin. Buy the best grades you can and the rarest dates you can afford.
Also, learn how to grade coins accurately, many coin sellers over grade their coins, including some dealers, the grade makes an incredible difference to the value.
