Anyone else think £30 for the bu set of 2017 definitive's is starting to get a bit steep ?

Must admit I have never been fussed by modern decimal coins - though I appreciate they have their place in the series of Milled coins.
As my username suggests would rather have a nice Victorian Silver coin.

i only collect the silver modern versions, not even worth buying them straight away cause you can get them half the price a year or so later

I think over the last fifteen years or so the Royal Mint as hugely expanded the number of new coins it issues each year. They are running it as a business venture after all. In the eighties and even nineties there would only be one or maybe two commemorative coins plus the usual definitive set each year. Now there are so many coins offered in so many forms I think it has become over run and yes they charge too much as well.

you can get most of the silver proofs on auction websites far below the price at new from the mint, see piedfort £5 coins going for 30 40 quid, crazy, i think there only worth scrap silver at the most, very few modern silver proofs are classes as scarce
