I recently sent a packet of US coins to a friend in the UK,after a long time he was notified that a customs charge of 56 pounds was required, the coins were valued at less then 15 pounds according to the UK post site no charge is required.Has anybody else had this problem? Thanks..

That sounds a bit odd. Definitely worth appealing that charge, there should be no charge when the value is under £15.

The United Kingdom, made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, is an island nation in northwestern Europe. England – birthplace of Shakespeare and The Beatles – is home to the capital, London, a globally influential centre of finance and culture. England is also site of Neolithic Stonehenge, Bath’s Roman spa and centuries-old universities at Oxford and Cambridge.
